Plan electric power as a complete system: kayak, motor, battery, controls, mounting and electrical connections. Match each component to the exact setup rather than choosing on headline price alone.

Your included pedals stay in the package

Electric motors are optional additions to PORTL kayaks. A Solo still includes one selected pedal drive; a Tandem still includes two. The builder supports up to one optional motor for Solo and up to two for Tandem. Confirm how units are fitted or swapped and how the controls operate for your chosen configuration.

Motor and battery are separate choices

The PORTL Electric Kayak Motor is listed as a standalone accessory. The 12V 100Ah battery and battery box bundle is a separate option. A motor listing does not automatically include a battery, charger or every installation component.

Ask for an itemised quote covering mounting hardware, cables, connectors, protection, charging and any installation work required for your specific system. Review delivery separately.

Match the electrical system before connecting it

Confirm the motor requirements against the battery voltage, capacity, discharge capability and charging requirements. Check the correct connectors, cable sizing, circuit protection, isolation and secured cable route with the supplied equipment guidance or a qualified installer.

Do not calculate a guaranteed runtime from amp-hours alone. Motor draw, settings, load, conditions and usable battery capacity affect endurance. Final PORTL motor performance and system specifications remain subject to verification.

What the battery box does

The box helps secure and organise the battery and provides a barrier against incidental splashing in a marine environment. It is not a waterproof enclosure and has no stated water-resistance or immersion rating. Keep it secured away from pooled water and do not submerge it. The battery, connections and charging setup still require appropriate protection and care.

Think beyond propulsion

Account for motor and battery weight in the complete load and secure them in the approved location. Plan transport, charging, inspection and a means of returning safely if power is unavailable. Suitability for the intended waterway and applicable local requirements should be checked before your outing.

Your questions, answered

Does the motor include the battery bundle?

No. The motor and 12V 100Ah battery/box bundle are separate options. Check your itemised quote for all included components.

Is the battery box waterproof?

No. It provides a barrier against incidental splashes, but has no stated waterproof, water-resistance or immersion rating. Do not submerge it.

Can I assume a particular runtime?

No. Confirm the verified motor specifications and battery requirements. Runtime varies with draw, load, settings and conditions.
